Wynly are rare monsters who inhabits the dark sea caves of the Galevane Isles. They rarely leave their caves, but curious Wynly may approach fishing boats in hopes of getting easy fish meals from sea folk who idolize them.


Personalities and Behaviors

It is unclear if are Wynly easygoing or simply clueless creatures; very little seems to bother them aside from hunger. Wynly is always seen wearing a content smile on their face.

However, Wynly seems to be aware of their ability to charm humans, and they use this to have humans bring fish to them instead of having to hunt for themselves.

History and Culture

These creatures are viewed as the hearts the Galevane Isles. Old Galevane tales describes Wynly's majestic movements as being the reason the wind blows and the sea flows towards the isles. The wind currents coming from Wynly's home, Dragonlung Caves, are vital to the windmills of the Galevane Isles and the lives of its inhabitants.

Over the past one hundred years, the Wynly population has declined in the coastle regions due to poaching. The reason is Wynly are covered for their mystical feathers and their value as exotic pets.

Today, the remaining wild Wynly are fiercely protected by the people of the Galevane Isles. Mistreating one of these creatures has heavy consequences is the act is caught.

Abilities

Wynly are born with a mastery of Wind magic. With their feathers imbued with Wind magic Wynly can levitate and fly with little effort. By vibrating their feathers Wynly can force a small wind storm to occur.

Despite not being a Water Element monster, Wynly has similar characteristics as one. Their impressive lungs allow them to stay submerge for hours.

Ecology

Wild Wynly are exclusively found inhabiting Dragonlung Caves, a sea cave system located near the Galevane Isles. Because of how little light exists in the depths the caves Wynly’s eyes evolved to be sensitive to light. While they can navigate the darkness well, too much light can overwhelm them.

The powerful winds and currents of Dragonlungs Caves makes it difficult for other large monsters to thrive, meaning Wynly has little competition and no predators.

Diet

Wynly are piscivores, but they occassionally consume seaweed as they seek fish. But in truth, Wynly are not an active hunters: they behave similarly to filter feeders. These semi-aquatic serpents swim with their mouth wide open and feed on fish, plankton and algae along the way.
