What is a Monrade?
A Monrade, or Monster Comrade, is a monster who’s formed a partnership with a monster tamer, or a Shepherd.
Both parties should benefit from the relationship: The Monrade provides protection to the Shepherd, while the Shepherd provides care, support and wisdom to the Monrade.
To achieve their full potential, a monster and tamer must be in mutual agreement. Attempting to capture and manipulate a monster will only stunt their growth.
Taming History
Records of monster taming are traced back to the old Draherian continent, over a millenia ago. Windie Tribe Draherians used monsters in their everyday lives; monsters were befriended to assist in hunting and gathering.
For centuries this way of life was exclusive to the Windie people. It was only until the Monster King War began and led to a rise in popularity when humans began to rely on monster militias for protection.
During the Monster King War, Windie Tribe villages of the Draegrave Isles used their monsters to deter attacks from the enemy. Eventually they began teaching monster taming to their neighbors. With the help of Monrades, the people of the isles were able to stand up to a tyrant and win the war.
Mankind and Monrades
Much of the world believes monsters are still too dangerous and are incapable of domestication. The world’s view of Shepherds has not been entirely positive despite their efforts to improve mankind and monster relationships. People who cook and eat monsters have conflicted with Shepherds for centuries. Or Shepherds have been accused of being barbarians for their mingling with monsters.
But the Shepherds and their Guild’s effort is not a waste. Monsters are popular partners for explorers and archeologists. Across Beistland and many of the Draegrave Isles, monsters can be found living among humans and Draherians and taking on jobs, too.
